Louisa & Craig – Calgary Wedding Photographer

A short while back I was the second shooter for Louisa and Craig’s wedding in Medicine Hat.  My friend Eiko Riley of Photography by Eiko was the primary.

Two weeks prior to the wedding, Louisa and Craig’s photographer advised that he could not shoot the wedding due to uncontrollable circumstances.  Eiko was scheduled to head to Manitoba for a series of photoshoots but was able to squeeze in this wedding because it was scheduled on a Friday.  I was also free that day so I drove to Medicine Hat on Friday morning to help document the day.

The wedding was a beautiful fusion of cultures.  With Louisa’s Chinese heritage, the wedding day started with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.  Louisa’s bridesmaids were dressed in colourful Chinese dresses.

The weather forced us to shoot primarily indoors, and so we used the beautiful interior of the Esplanade in downtown Medicine Hat to capture most of the formals.

Louisa and Craig exchanged vows in what was mainly a Western ceremony.  The highlight for me (and most likely for Louisa and her side of the family) was when Craig delivered his vows in Cantonese.  It was a great moment too, to see Craig become emotional during his vows and to see him embrace his wife’s culture.

Here are some of the images I captured for Eiko.  You can view more images of their wedding day and see more of Eiko’s fantastic portfolio here.  Congratulations Louisa and Craig!  Always a privilege to see a young couple, their family, and friends celebrate the start of their lifetime journey together.  Cheers.
